Integrations in FortnoxFortnox integration: what it is, what it requires, and what it costs
A Fortnox integration connects Fortnox to another system so data moves between them without anyone entering it twice. What you need depends on how the integration is sold: an integration bought directly from a third-party integrator requires a Fortnox integration licence, while one marked “Köp hos Fortnox” — such as Nordsynk — is bought and activated in Fortnox without a separate integration licence. In both cases, a system administrator activates the connection in the Fortnox portal.
For integrations marked “Köp hos Fortnox”, Fortnox handles the purchase and adds the cost to your regular Fortnox invoice; these integrations do not need a separate integration licence. Integrations bought directly from an integrator are priced and billed by that provider, and require Fortnox's integration licence.
What does integration mean in Fortnox?
An integration in Fortnox is a connection between Fortnox and another system that lets the two exchange data automatically — invoices, customers, vouchers or payments — without anyone typing the same detail twice.
Underneath, all traffic goes through the Fortnox API. The integration signs in with OAuth 2.0 on your behalf and receives a bounded set of permissions — which parts of the books it can read and write: an e-commerce connector usually asks for customer invoices and articles, while a payroll connector asks for something else entirely. Two integrations on the same Fortnox account can therefore see completely different parts of your bookkeeping.
Activating an integration has two parts: choose the commercial route, then approve what it may do. A Marketplace integration is bought in Fortnox; a direct integration is bought from the integrator. In both cases, you can review the requested access and later disconnect the integration in the Fortnox portal.

What can you connect Fortnox to?
The Fortnox Appmarket holds hundreds of ready-made integrations. Most fall into four categories, and which one you need determines what to look for.
E-commerce and sales
Orders from WooCommerce, Shopify or Magento become customer invoices in Fortnox. Check how returns and partial payments are handled — that is where connectors differ most.
Banking and payments
Bank transactions are matched against invoices so the ledger reconciles. This usually requires a separate agreement with the bank; if the connector is bought directly from an integrator, Fortnox's integration-licence requirement applies too.
Payroll, time and projects
Timesheets become the basis for invoicing or payroll. Worth checking which payroll items are supported before you activate.
AI assistants and reporting
A newer category: connectors that let you read and change things in Fortnox from ChatGPT, Claude or a spreadsheet instead of through Fortnox's own menus.
What does a Fortnox integration cost?
Start with the sales route. An integration marked “Köp hos Fortnox” is bought from Fortnox, charged on your regular Fortnox invoice, and does not require a separate integration licence. A third-party integration bought directly from its integrator is billed by that provider and requires a Fortnox integration licence. Compare both the integration's own price and any Fortnox licence cost.
Prices vary so widely because the billing units differ: some integrations charge per company, others per user, others per transaction. Before comparing two prices, check which unit they count in. The same headline figure can work out very differently depending on how many people and how many companies you have — and it is the unit, not the figure, that decides what the connector costs as you grow.
Nordsynk is marked “Köp hos Fortnox” and costs 199 SEK per Fortnox company and user per month through Fortnox Appmarket, with no separate integration licence. Each user needs their own Nordsynk seat in each Fortnox company where they use the integration — one seat does not cover several companies. Accounting firms with many client companies use a separate Nordsynk agreement instead: a base fee of 490 SEK/month covering all consultants, plus 149 SEK per active client company per month for the first ten.

How to activate an integration in Fortnox
The exact flow depends on how the integration is sold. These steps cover both Marketplace integrations and direct purchases from an integrator.
- 1Check the listing's sales route. If it is marked “Köp hos Fortnox”, it does not need a separate integration licence. If you are buying directly from an integrator, add an active Fortnox integration licence to your subscription first.
- 2As a Fortnox system administrator, go to Administrera integrationer and choose Beställ fler licenser to open the marketplace. Find the integration and check whether it is marked “Köp hos Fortnox” or directs you to the integrator.
- 3For a “Köp hos Fortnox” integration, click Buy or activate in Fortnox; its cost is added to your regular Fortnox invoice. For a direct integration, follow the integrator's purchase and activation instructions. In either case, read the permissions it requests before approving.
- 4Sign in to the integration's own service with your Fortnox account. This is where the OAuth flow runs and the permissions actually take effect.
- 5Assign any user seats required by the integration. For Nordsynk, that means one seat per user in each Fortnox company where they work. Anyone without an assigned seat may get a missing-licence error at sign-in rather than a silent block.
What permissions does an integration get?
An integration only gets the permissions it requested at activation, and never more than the signed-in user already has in Fortnox. If you cannot approve supplier invoices yourself, no integration can grant you that right.
It is worth separating read from write. A reporting connector that only reads can at worst show you a wrong figure. An integration with write permissions can post entries, approve invoices and send them — and there you should check whether the vendor requires an approval step before anything is saved, or whether changes go straight through.
Fortnox integration through ChatGPT or Claude
Nordsynk is an integration of the newer kind: instead of moving data between two systems, it lets you ask Fortnox questions in plain language and get real figures back with their sources.
In practice it looks like this. You type “Which supplier invoices fall due this week?” in ChatGPT and get the list back with amounts, due dates and suppliers. Then you type “Approve invoice 1042” — and that is where it stops by default. In the standard mode, the change is held pending until you explicitly approve it, and the approval lands in the audit history. If you enable auto-approve for that Fortnox company in the dashboard, the change executes immediately instead; Fortnox permissions and access policies still apply.
Example · sample invoices
| No. | Due | Supplier | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1042 | 23 Jun | Telia | 1 249 |
| 1047 | 24 Jun | Bring | 4 800 |
| 1051 | 26 Jun | Kvarnen AB | 12 500 |

| Invoice | In Fortnox now | After approval |
|---|---|---|
| 1042 · Telia · 1 249.00 kr | In Fortnox nowNot approved | After approvalApproved |
With auto-approve enabled for the company the change executes immediately. Fortnox permissions and access policies apply in both modes.
The limitation is worth stating plainly: this kind of connector does not replace an e-commerce integration or a bank feed. It is built for the work you would otherwise do by hand in the Fortnox interface — searching, reconciling, reporting and approving — not for scheduled data sync between two systems.
Common questions about Fortnox integrations
Do I need an integration licence to activate an integration?
Not always. A third-party integration bought directly from its integrator requires an active Fortnox integration licence. An integration marked “Köp hos Fortnox”, including Nordsynk, is bought and activated through Fortnox and does not require a separate integration licence. Check the listing label and the provider's instructions.
What does Nordsynk cost?
199 SEK per Fortnox company and user per month through the Fortnox Appmarket. Accounting firms use a direct agreement instead. Starts at 937 SEK/month excl. VAT, base fee included.
Can an integration change my bookkeeping without my approval?
It depends on the integration and its settings. A connector with write permissions can technically post entries directly. By default, Nordsynk holds each change for approval and logs the decision. If you enable auto-approve for this company in the dashboard, the change may execute immediately instead; Fortnox permissions and access policies still apply.
Can I connect several Fortnox companies?
Yes. You connect each company separately and then reach them all from the same AI assistant. The licence, however, is per Fortnox company and user — one licence does not cover several companies.
