Best AI bookkeeping tools for 2026: an honest comparison

The best AI bookkeeping tool depends on the job: do you want automatic coding, quality checks on work that has already been booked, or an AI assistant that works in Fortnox? These are different categories, and treating them as if they solve the same problem can lead you to the wrong product. We compare seven tools used by Swedish businesses and accounting firms.

This comparison uses each provider's own product pages and price lists, not old roundups or unverified third-party claims. For each tool, we looked at the job it solves, whether it connects to Fortnox or replaces it, the price on the provider's own pricing page, and what a person reviews before an AI-suggested entry is booked. That last point matters: the amount of review and approval required varies more than the marketing suggests. For a broader guide to what AI bookkeeping can do, and where Swedish law still leaves responsibility with a person, see AI bookkeeping: what AI can actually do — and can't.

One disclosure before we continue: Nordsynk is our product. When another tool is a better fit, we say so below. Otherwise this would be a comparison table designed to favour its author.

Lerry.ai

Lerry.ai describes itself as a leading AI tool for bookkeeping, accounting, and audit, but its clearest role is quality control on work that has already been booked. Lerry.ai says it runs more than 500 automatic checks against balance and VAT reports, and connects to Fortnox, Spiris, Bokio, Briox, and Monitor. Its Fortnox add-on, Controly, is activated in the Fortnox portal and runs a weekly reconciliation for SEK 99/month. The strength is the breadth of checks and that they run automatically, without someone at the firm having to remember to start them. The limitation is the commitment: the pricing page lists a twelve-month term and no free trial. Lerry.ai does not book or code entries for you; it reviews work already done. It suits firms with several clients that want to catch errors before year-end. Lerry.ai also says the tool “optimises work processes by up to 67 percent” compared with manual reconciliation. We could not verify that figure independently, so treat it as the vendor's claim.

Zimply Accounting

Zimply Accounting reads each line on a supplier invoice and suggests coding directly in Fortnox. Fortnox's marketplace description calls the suggestions accurate; we did not find a Zimply accuracy figure on its own site to verify that claim. This is an automatic-coding service, not just receipt scanning, built as an integrated layer on top of your existing company. The service starts at SEK 2,950/month, plus a Fortnox integration licence from SEK 189/month, charged separately by Fortnox for this type of third-party integration. That makes Zimply the most expensive tool in this comparison, and the cost makes sense only when the invoice volume saves enough staff time. Its listing in the Fortnox marketplace, as well as on Zimply's own site, is evidence of an approved integration rather than an indirect workaround. It is best suited to companies with many supplier invoices each month; it is a poorer fit for low volumes.

Björn Lundén (Lundify)

Björn Lundén now operates under the Lundify brand. It is not an add-on to Fortnox, but an alternative to it. Its AI interprets receipts and supplier invoices, then suggests bookkeeping entries for you to approve. Lundify's product page says unlimited AI interpretation is included in the Easy plan for SEK 199/month — a concrete point if you are already considering a move away from Fortnox. That same choice is also the limitation: choosing Lundify means leaving Fortnox, so it is less relevant if you want to keep Fortnox and add AI on top. It is best suited to sole traders and smaller companies that are not committed to Fortnox. The pricing page lists a 30-day free trial with no commitment. If you also want bank and payment connections, its largest plan, Total, costs SEK 349/month.

Spiris

Spiris, formerly Visma eAccounting, uses AI to interpret receipt photos so amounts can be added to the books without manual entry. Like Lundify, Spiris is its own finance platform, not a Fortnox connection, so you would book in Spiris instead of Fortnox. Plans start at SEK 199/month, with a six-month free trial for newly started businesses. Since 1 September 2025, Spiris has charged SEK 3.50 when a supplier invoice is booked using interpreted data. According to Spiris's support page on automatic interpretation the fee applies only to supplier invoices, not receipts or other documents, and is charged only when the invoice is actually booked using the interpretation — not when it is uploaded. The benefit is the low entry price and having bookkeeping and receipt interpretation in one subscription. The drawback is that per-invoice charges grow with volume, and Fortnox cannot remain alongside it. Plans range from Start at SEK 199/month to Lyfta at SEK 1,249/month for businesses that have outgrown the smaller tiers.

Pleo

Pleo is primarily a company card and expense-management service. Its AI categorises transactions and matches them to receipts before they are sent to Fortnox. This is an integration: the chart of accounts, projects, and cost centres sync from Fortnox, and expenses are booked to a voucher series you configure for manual coding. Pricing starts at SEK 39/month for up to three users and rises to SEK 2,600/month for larger teams. We did not find a concrete AI coding accuracy figure on Pleo's site, so think of it as categorisation support rather than a complete automatic-coding engine. It suits teams whose main problem is receipts and card purchases; it is a weaker fit when supplier invoices make up most of the workload. Between Starter and the top-tier Beyond plan at SEK 2,600/month are Essential at SEK 245/month and Advanced at SEK 1,300/month, so the price follows the number of cards and the expense automation you need.

Dooer

Dooer has historically marketed itself as an AI bookkeeping service, but dooer.com now describes a different focus: a “Financial OS” that consolidates transactions from more than 2,000 banks and credit-card companies for CFOs and finance teams, currently in closed beta. We found no Fortnox reference or public price on Dooer's own site. Third-party pages show older prices for bookkeeping software, but we could not verify them with Dooer, so they are omitted here. That makes Dooer difficult to assess today: if you need a ready-to-buy AI bookkeeping service with a Fortnox connection, this is not the right time to choose it, regardless of what older comparisons say. Until recently, Dooer positioned itself as a service where a human accounting consultant reviewed AI bookkeeping suggestions. That positioning no longer appears on its home page, and we cannot tell whether the offer has ended or is simply not being promoted there.

Nordsynk

Nordsynk does something different from the other tools here: it does not book entries for you or automatically code invoices at scale. It is a hosted Fortnox MCP server that lets you ask questions, search, and work in Fortnox through Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI assistants — for example, finding overdue invoices, looking up vouchers, or preparing a customer invoice. If your problem is coding hundreds of supplier invoices each month, Zimply or Lerry.ai is a better fit. Nordsynk is for a different problem: getting answers from Fortnox without signing in for every lookup. It is activated in the Fortnox portal for SEK 199 per Fortnox company per user per month. A user who works in several Fortnox companies needs a separate licence for each one. For examples of supplier-invoice and customer-invoice workflows and SIE export, see our guide to automating bookkeeping in Fortnox with AI.

AI assistants connected to Fortnox (MCP)

AI assistants connected to Fortnox through MCP are a different category from tools that automatically code invoices: they let you ask questions about bookkeeping and carry out selected tasks from an AI assistant. Nordsynk is a hosted Fortnox MCP server activated in the Fortnox integration marketplace. It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot Studio, and other AI assistants that support MCP. Changes are previewed and normally require your approval; company-level auto-approval can be enabled. The Marketplace price is SEK 199 per Fortnox company per user per month, so one user needs a separate licence in each company where they use it.

Sidcom lists separate Claude Connector and ChatGPT Connector products, as well as AI Connector: Multi-Company. Weavio MCP lists Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot support, along with portfolios, sub-portfolios, and client companies. Novus Byrå is aimed at accounting firms and lists Claude and ChatGPT; its Fortnox listing says connected companies start read-only and write access is enabled per company. These products differ in hosting, supported assistants, firm workflows, and how they handle changes, so compare the details that matter to your setup.

How to choose

Accounting firm with several clients: Your bottleneck is probably quality across many sets of books, not one entry. Lerry.ai's automatic checks are built for that, and the Controly add-on is inexpensive enough to try with one company first. If your accountants also want to avoid signing in to Fortnox for every client question, Nordsynk can complement the review tool; it does not replace it. Our guide to building safe Fortnox skills for AI agents describes the controls behind that workflow. These tools solve different parts of the problem, so a firm may use them together.

Small company with one person responsible for finance: If supplier invoices are the biggest time drain, Zimply Accounting may justify its higher price when your monthly volume is high enough to save that much staff time. If receipts and card purchases are the bigger issue, Pleo addresses a different part of the work. If you want to automate more Fortnox workflows than bookkeeping, consider the option to access the full Fortnox API through an MCP endpoint separately. Try Zimply or Pleo with one team before a broader rollout; actual volumes rarely match the first estimate exactly.

Sole trader: One question narrows the choice: do you want to leave Fortnox? If yes, Lundify or Spiris offer AI interpretation in their own accounting platforms. If no, and you mainly want to ask questions or prepare changes without navigating the Fortnox interface, Nordsynk is one MCP option that lets you keep Fortnox and work with it through an AI assistant. Other options include Sidcom, Weavio, and Novus Byrå. Compare their features before choosing. Also consider how much time you have already invested in learning Fortnox before deciding to move your books to a new system.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI is best for bookkeeping?

It depends on the job: Zimply Accounting focuses on automatic supplier-invoice coding in Fortnox, Lerry.ai on accounting-firm reviews at scale, and Nordsynk on working in Fortnox through an AI assistant. Nordsynk is one of several MCP options, alongside Sidcom, Weavio, and Novus Byrå. Choose based on your main bottleneck.

Do I have to leave Fortnox to use AI for bookkeeping?

No. Zimply Accounting, Pleo, and Lerry.ai connect to Fortnox, as do Nordsynk and MCP options such as Sidcom, Weavio, and Novus Byrå. Lundify and Spiris are standalone platforms, so you book in those systems instead of Fortnox.

What does AI bookkeeping really cost?

Prices range from SEK 39/month for Pleo's smallest plan to SEK 2,950/month plus a Fortnox integration licence for Zimply Accounting. Compare based on whether you need an add-on or a complete accounting platform. The table flags where a vendor such as Dooer has no published price.

Want to try the conversational category?

Nordsynk suits people who want to keep Fortnox and ask questions through Claude or ChatGPT. If you want to automate invoice coding at scale, Zimply Accounting or Lerry.ai are better places to start — try them first.
